Who needs to know you’re aligning your teeth? With the barely visible Invisalign® aligners, you can correct crooked teeth, gaps between your teeth, and other alignment problems without metal — or attention. Homa Shahriari, DDS, the general and cosmetic dentist at Mirror Cosmetic Dentistry’s two locations in Northridge, California, offers Invisalign evaluation and fittings, and then monitors patients until their teeth are stunningly straight. Use the online contact form or phone the office to arrange an Invisalign consultation now.
Invisalign is an alternative to metal braces. The system includes trays, known as aligners, which fit snugly over your teeth. Although you can't see the aligners because they're transparent plastic, they're a powerful teeth-straightening tool.
Many people love Invisalign because it allows for discreet but highly effective teeth straightening in about the same amount of time, if not less time, than metal braces take.
Invisalign packs another prized benefit: You take out the aligners when you eat and when you clean your teeth. So you get to stick with favorite foods you might not be able to eat if you’re wearing metal braces, and daily hygiene is much easier than with traditional braces.
Invisalign starts with an evaluation by Dr. Shahriari. If you're a good candidate, your treatment can start very quickly. First, Dr. Shahriari makes impressions of your mouth. Those impressions go to an Invisalign laboratory, where your custom aligners are made.
When your aligners arrive at Mirror Cosmetic Dentistry — usually around a month — you'll start treatment right away. You'll wear your first set of aligners for about two weeks, and then exchange them for the next set of aligners. You'll continue this process until you've used all of your trays. With each new set of aligners, your teeth move closer to their ultimate straightened destination.
After your final set of aligners, you may need a bit of further straightening to get optimal results. Refining trays work just like aligner trays: they're custom made in the Invisalign laboratory. You'll typically need only one or two sets of refining trays before you transition into retainers to maintain your newly straightened teeth.
If you have minor to moderate alignment problems, gaps between the teeth, or teeth crowding, you might be a good candidate for Invisalign.
Teens, adults, and even some preteens can get Invisalign. Preteens must have their adult teeth to get Invisalign, so it's usually best for ages 11 and up.
A personal commitment to Invisalign is important if you want to get the best success. Only people who are fully committed to wearing the aligners for 20-22 hours daily are good candidates. If you're tempted to not wear your aligners regularly, traditional metal braces might be a better option since they're not removable.
